Sara Chavez (she/her/ella)

Sara Chavez is a member of the UCSB Class of 2025, majoring in Political Science and minoring in Poverty, Inequality, and Social Justice. She began her journey with the Wilderness Youth Project as an intern and now has the privilege of continuing to grow with the organization, building strong relationships with the staff and wider community.
She is deeply curious about the many ways people find meaning in life and loves using her mind to explore different perspectives, ask big questions, and reflect on the deeper layers of everyday experiences. Time spent in nature and with kids supports this mindset, reminding her to slow down, stay open, and approach life with wonder.
As a lifelong learner, she finds constant inspiration in new experiences and believes that nature and youth offer endless opportunities for growth, imagination, and connection.
Outside of her work and academic life, Sara enjoys making coffee, home-cooked meals, thrifting for unique finds, long beach walks, and watching historical deep-dives on YouTube. She loves to laugh, seek beauty in the small things, and embrace her inner child. For her, being with kids and in nature is not only grounding—it’s a way to return to herself and live with authenticity, lightness, and joy.
Sara Chavez es miembro de la clase 2025 de la Universidad de California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), donde estudia Ciencias Políticas con una especialización secundaria en Pobreza, Desigualdad y Justicia Social. Comenzó su camino con Wilderness Youth Project como pasante, y ahora tiene el privilegio de continuar creciendo dentro de la organización, construyendo relaciones sólidas con el equipo y la comunidad en general
Tiene una profunda curiosidad por las distintas formas en que las personas encuentran significado en la vida y le encanta usar su mente para explorar diferentes perspectivas, hacerse grandes preguntas y reflexionar sobre las capas más profundas de las experiencias cotidianas. El tiempo que pasa en la naturaleza y con niños/as la ayuda a mantener esta mentalidad, recordándole la importancia de desacelerar, mantenerse abierta y acercarse a la vida con asombro.
Como aprendiz de por vida, encuentra inspiración constante en las nuevas experiencias y cree que la naturaleza y la juventud ofrecen infinitas oportunidades para el crecimiento, la imaginación y la conexión.
Fuera de su vida académica y profesional, a Sara le gusta preparar café, cocinar en casa, buscar hallazgos únicos en tiendas de segunda mano, caminar por la playa y ver documentales históricos en YouTube. Le encanta reír, encontrar belleza en los pequeños detalles y conectar con su niña interior. Para ella, estar con niños/as y en la naturaleza no solo la arraiga, sino que también es una forma de volver a sí misma y vivir con autenticidad, ligereza y alegría.
