Ashley is a mother, maker, mentor, lover of beauty and ground kisser. She was raised on Chumash land, became an adult in Italy and has since vacillated, sometimes gracefully, between her two homes. As a mother she has raised her two children in deep connection with the earth. As a mentor she has devoted a large portion of her time developing programs that seek to connect children to the land through ancestral craft, traditional foodways and storytelling, first with her own project Children’s Theater Circle, then True North and now with WYP. As a maker she relishes in the possibility that the relationship of self to the land is the art and that the product or piece holds the essence of that relationship. She is interested in how love and grief are sisters, why coyote brush snow on the wind feels like a prayer, how the first time she milked goats or spun wool didn’t feel like learning, but remembering. She weaves, wonders a lot, and sings to the sea often.
Ashley es madre, creadora, mentora, amante de la belleza y besadora del suelo. Se crió en la tierra de Chumash, se convirtió en adulta en Italia y desde entonces ha vacilado, a veces con gracia, entre sus dos hogares. Como madre ha criado a sus dos hijos en profunda conexión con la tierra. Como mentora, ha dedicado gran parte de su tiempo desarrollando programas que buscan conectar a los niños con la tierra a través de la artesanía ancestral, la comida tradicional y la narración de cuentos, primero con su propio proyecto Children's Theater Circle, luego True North y ahora con WYP. Como creadora, se deleita con la posibilidad de que la relación de sí misma con la tierra sea el arte y que el producto o pieza contenga la esencia de esa relación. Ella está interesada en cómo el amor y el dolor son hermanas, por qué la nieve del arbusto de coyote brush en el viento se siente como una oración, cómo la primera vez que ordeñó cabras o hilaba lana no sentía cómo que estaba aprendiendo, sino recordando. Ella teje, se hace muchas preguntas y le canta al mar a menudo.
