About Summer Camp

Participants meet for a 1-2 week summer session, at various spots throughout Santa Barbara, Goleta, and Montecito. Most programs have 12 youth and use 15-passenger vans to travel to different resource-rich locations each week, such as the creeks, beaches and open spaces in Santa Barbara’s abundant front country. Every program has a 4:1 ratio of children to adults.

Participants explore and learn in these beautiful natural places: playing games designed to build awareness, gaining naturalist skills, following their own curiosity, discovering the plants and animals in the area, making crafts and deepening their connection to the natural world.

How does registration and pricing work?

Our summer camp programs fill up quickly and we always have a waiting list. We make sure our programs are inclusive. Scholarships are available based upon family size and income level.

Our summer camp curriculum focuses on core exploration activities.

  • Circle of Thanksgiving—Sharing words of gratitude
  • Awareness Games—Camouflage, animal forms, and more
  • Wandering—Outdoor exploring nature
  • Storytelling—Telling stories with words, journaling, acting
  • Art of questioning—The answer always leads to more questions…
  • Sit Spot—Knowledge of place, quiet reflection, observation and experience
  • Earth skills—Learn fire by friction, cordage,
tracking, archery and more while building relationships with materials from nature

Demand for WYP camps exceeds the spots we are able to offer in the summer. For that reason, we have a weighted lottery that prioritizes continuing/ returning participants and our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Every interested participant should apply to the waitlist for all the programs they are available for to increase the chances of getting in. Families who waitlist during the first open registration period, February 26- March 8, will have higher chances of getting a camp awarded. Lottery results are announced 2.5 weeks after the first registration period closes.
